Macky Sall
Macky Sall is a Senegalese statesman and geological engineer who served as the fourth President of Senegal from 2012 to 2024.Prior to this, he held key government roles, including Minister of Mines, Energy, and Water, Prime Minister (2004–2007), and President of the National Assembly (2007–2008). In 2008, he founded the Alliance for the Republic (APR), which led to his election in 2012 and reelection in 2019.
On the international stage, President Sall played a pivotal role in regional diplomacy and African development. He chaired key institutions such as the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Heads of State and Government Orientation Committee, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and the African Union (2022–2023). He also served as Special Envoy for the Paris Pact for the People and the Planet and is currently Chairman of the Global Center on Adaptation to Climate Change.
Recognized for his contributions to governance, economic transformation, and international diplomacy, Macky Sall has received numerous honorary distinctions, including Doctor Honoris Causa titles from universities in Benin, Switzerland, South Korea, and France.
