Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, a distinguished Ghanaian lawyer and politician, served as Ghana’s 13th president from 2017 to 2025. He previously held roles as Attorney General (2001–2003) and Minister for Foreign Affairs (2003–2007) under President John Kufuor.
During his presidency, he prioritized education with the “Free Senior High School” policy and promoted industrialization through “One District, One Factory.” His “Ghana Beyond Aid” agenda emphasized economic self-sufficiency. He also took steps to combat corruption, appointing a special prosecutor in 2018, and navigated economic challenges, including those posed by COVID-19. In 2019, he was appointed Co-Chair of the UN Secretary-General’s Sustainable Development Goals Advocates.
Akufo-Addo received several awards for his leadership, including the 2021 African of the Year award by Forbes.
Throughout his life, Akufo-Addo has been a champion of human rights and civil liberties, participating in movements that have advanced the country’s freedoms. His presidency ended peacefully in 2025, leaving a lasting legacy of educational reform, economic progress and national empowerment.
